Q: How do I get organized to create a home inventory?
A: Jamie Novak, Collectify's Chief Organizing Officer, offers great tips on how easy it is to get started on your home inventory. She'll walk you through manageable strategies to help you get organized and find the time to do your inventory in twenty minute intervals. See for yourself: "How to Create a Home Inventory".
Q: Is there an inventory size limit?
A: No. You may add as much data as you wish to your inventory. You are only limited by the size of your hard disk. Remember, the more data and media files you store in Collectify Home Inventory, the larger your inventory file will be.
Q: How do I save my inventory?
A: Collectify Home Inventory automatically saves your changes as you work. Whenever you make changes in your inventory, such as adding a new object or importing an image, that information is immediately recorded to your computer's hard disk. Should your computer suddenly turn off (eg. due to a power failure), all of the changes you have made in your database will be saved, except perhaps for those made in the few seconds before the computer turned off.
Q: Does my inventory automatically backup online?
A: If you subscribe to Collectify Cloud, backups are done on an hourly basis. Your data can never be lost.
Q: Can I undo an action?
A: It is possible to recover data you have entered in an editor's field by using the Undo tool. Simply click on Edit in the menu bar, then Undo (or use the shortcut CTRL-Z). Keep in mind that you can only undo an action if you have not closed the editor - you cannot recover data you have deleted from a field after you have left the record.
Q: What is the easiest method of data entry?
A: We suggest using either Quick Entry or Quick Image since they are the speediest methods of creating entries in Collectify Home Inventory. For more information, see Quick Entry and Quick Image sections of Collectify Home Inventory Help.
Q: Why can't I open my report file?
A: To open a report for preview, you need a PDF application installed, such as Adobe Reader. Go to www.adobe.com to download their free software.
Q: Where is my registration key?
A: Your registration key was sent to you via e-mail when you placed your order. It starts with HI-1000-01.
If you placed your order on Amazon, the registration key is on a sticker on the CD case.
Q: Can I run Collectify Home Inventory on my Mac?
A: Yes, by subscribing to Collectify Cloud, or from your desktop but you will have run a Windows emulation software (such as Bootcamp or Parallels) and a copy of Microsoft Windows.
Q: How do I backup/restore an inventory (database)?
A: Open Collectify Home Inventory
To Backup: If you already have an inventory open, select File, Close first. Then from the login screen, select the database and click on the Backup button. Follow the prompts to save the .hbk file. Make a note of where the file is being saved if you need to copy it to an external drive, network drive or device.
To Restore: If your Collectify Home Inventory backup file (.hbk) is on an external drive, copy it to the local drive. Select File, Restore from the program menu. Follow the prompts to select the backup file to restore (.hbk)
Q: Is Collectify Home Inventory compatible with Windows 10/8/7/Vista?
A: Yes, but you may need to install it using the Windows Compatibility Troubleshooter.
Q: How do I right click on a Mac?
A: There are at least 4 ways, detailed here. The simplest is Control + Click.
