Q: How do I get organized to create a home inventory?
A: Jamie Novak, Collectify's Chief Organizing Officer, offers great tips on how easy it is to get started on your home inventory. She'll walk you through manageable strategies to help you get organized and find the time to do your inventory in twenty minute intervals. See for yourself: "How to Create a Home Inventory".
Q: What if I don't own a digital camera?
A: No problem. If you don't own a digital camera, you can simply use your regular film camera and get the film processed as a photo CD. Or if you have a scanner, you can also take photos with any film camera and then scan the photos into your computer (you can also use the scanner for digitalizing important documents).
Q: Do I need a scanner for digitizing documents?
A: No. A digital camera is faster and the results are just as good. Simply pick a flat surface with natural light; lay down the document (making sure the lens is parallel to the surface), focus, and snap.
Q: Is there an inventory size limit?
A: No. You may add as much data as you wish to your inventory. You are only limited by the size of your hard disk. Remember, the more data and media files you store in Collectify Home Inventory, the larger your inventory file will be.
Q: How do I save my inventory?
A: Collectify Home Inventory automatically saves your changes as you work. Whenever you make changes in your inventory, such as adding a new object or importing an image, that information is immediately recorded to your computer's hard disk. Should your computer suddenly turn off (eg. due to a power failure), all of the changes you have made in your database will be saved, except perhaps for those made in the few seconds before the computer turned off.
Q: Does my inventory automatically backup online?
A: We do not provide online storage for Collectify Home Inventory. See Links of Interest in the Help section of Collectify Home Inventory for possible storage websites.
A: It is possible to recover data you have entered in an editor's field by using the Undo tool. Simply click on Edit in the menu bar, then Undo (or use the shortcut CTRL-Z). Keep in mind that you can only undo an action if you have not closed the editor - you cannot recover data you have deleted from a field after you have left the record.
Q: What is the easiest method of data entry?
A: We suggest using either Quick Entry or Quick Image since they are the speediest methods of creating entries in Collectify Home Inventory. For more information, see Quick Entry and Quick Image sections of Collectify Home Inventory Help.
Q: Why can't I open my report file?
A: To open a report for preview, you need a PDF application installed, such as Adobe Reader. Go to www.adobe.com to download their free software.
Q: Where is my registration key?
A: Your registration key was sent to you via e-mail when you placed your order. It starts with HI-1000-01.
If you placed your order on Amazon, the registration key is on a sticker on the CD case.
Q: Can I run Collectify Home Inventory on my Mac?
A: Yes, with the use of Windows emulation software and a copy of Microsoft Windows.
By default, all Macs since 2007 have the emulator Bootcamp installed. This software allows users to boot into either the Mac operating system or the Windows operating system (if installed). To change operating systems you must reboot your computer.
Other emulators exist that allow you to run the two operating systems simultaneously. These include Parallels and VMware Fusion.
Remember, a copy of Microsoft Windows is still required. Please contact your local Apple retailer for system requirement information.
