What Is the Art Loss Register?

The Art Loss Register (ALR) is the world’s largest database of stolen art, antiques and collectibles. Fine art specialists add detailed art theft reports to the ALR database of which there are now over 180,000. These same multilingual specialists search over 300,000 art sales each year and work with police throughout the world to locate and recover stolen art. How Does the ALR Deter Theft?

The ALR also registers collections before a theft has occurred. These items are also checked against upcoming art sales around the world and if a pre-registered item is matched against such a search the owner will be alerted. This is particularly important where an item is out of the immediate control of the owner such as when art is in storage, transit, a second home or commercial setting such as a corporate collection. The risk of internal theft is also reduced where those with access to the collection are made aware of the ALR registration.

How Do I Benefit From This as a Collectify Client?

A Collectify collection or a set of specified items in a collection can be uploaded or emailed to the ALR either after a theft or to pre-register a collection.

The simplicity of this arrangement it is not only easier for the Collectify client but it also allows the ALR to offer Collectify clients a discount on its usual pre-registration fees.

What if My Collection is On Paper or in Another Electronic Form?

Through our relationship with the ALR we can do the work for you. One of the ALR’s specialists will take your information and put it into the Collectify system for you. Fees for this service will depend upon the size of the collection and what format it is in.
